Foreign Minister to Attend Mekong-Lanchang Cooperation Meeting in Beijing

PHNOM PENH: Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Sok Chenda Sophea will attend the 8th Ministerial Meeting of the Mekong-Lanchang Cooperation (MLC) in Beijing on December 7.

The meeting will be held under the theme "Jointly Strive for Modernization and Cultivate New Strengths in Subregional Development." It is an opportunity for member states to discuss in detail the five-year Mekong-Lancang Cooperation Action Plan (2023-2027) along with initiatives that promote socio-economic development in the face of global uncertainty.

The Mekong-Lancang Cooperation started in 2015 as an agreement between Cambodia, China, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand and Vietnam. The collaboration focuses on three main pillars (Political and Security Cooperation, Economic and Sustainable Development and Social, Cultural and People to People Exchanges) and key priority areas, namely connectivity, production capacity, cross-border economic cooperation, water resources and agriculture and poverty reduction.

Minister of Foreign Affairs Sok Chenda Sophea, is scheduled to hold separate bilateral meetings with his member state counterparts to further strengthen relations and cooperation within the Mekong-Lancang framework to discuss projects that are sustainable in the region and internationally.
